Set up your phone for POP3 email

If you're using a POP3 email account in your email application on your computer, you can also set it up on your phone. Follow these instructions to set up your phone for POP3 email.
Please note that these instructions are based on a POP3 email account. If you have a web-based email account, such as Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or Gmail, you need to use the settings for web-based email. Click here for information on how to the set up your phone for web-based email.


1. Find "Access Point Names"
  • Press the menu icon.
  • Press Settings.
  • Press Wireless and network.
  • Press Mobile networks.
  • Press Access Point Names.
2. Create new data connection
  • Press the Menu key.
  • Press New APN.
3. Enter data connection name
  • Press Name.
  • Key in Vodafone Mail and press OK.
4. Enter APN
  • Press APN.
  • Key in live.vodafone.com and press OK.
An APN is used to create a data connection.
5. Enter country code
  • Press MCC.
  • Key in 272 and press OK.
6. Enter network code
  • Press MNC.
  • Key in 01 and press OK.
7. Select authentication type
  • Press Authentication type.
  • Press PAP.
8. Select APN type
  • Press APN type.
  • Press Internet.
9. Save and activate data connection
  • Press the Menu key.
  • Press Save.
  • Press the field next to Vodafone Mail to fill in the field.
  • Press the Home key to return to standby mode.
10. Find "Email"
  • Press the menu icon.
  • Press Email.
11. Create new email account
  • If email accounts have been created already:
  • Press the Menu key.
  • Press Accounts.
  • Press the Menu key.
  • Press Add account.
12. Enter email address
  • Press account@example.com and key in your email address.
13. Enter password
  • Press Password and key in the password for your email account.
  • Press Next.
14. Select server type
  • Press POP3 account.
15. Enter username
  • Press the field below User name and key in the username for your email account.
16. Enter incoming server
  • Press the field below POP3 server and key in the name of your email provider's incoming mail server.
17. Enter incoming port
  • Press the field below Port and key in 110
18. Turn off SSL encryption of incoming email messages
  • Press the drop down list below Security type.
  • Press None.
  • Press Next.
SSL encryption protects your email messages when sending and receiving email messages. If you turn on SSL encryption, your email provider and internet service provider need to support this function, and you might need to select further settings before you can send and receive email messages.
19. Enter outgoing server
  • Press the field below SMTP server and key in mail.vodafone.ie
20. Enter outgoing port
  • Press the field below Port and key in 25
21. Turn off SSL encryption of outgoing email messages
  • Press the drop down list below Security type.
  • Press None.
SSL encryption protects your email messages when sending and receiving email messages. If you turn on SSL encryption, your email provider and internet service provider need to support this function, and you might need to select further settings before you can send and receive email messages.
22. Turn off SMTP authentication
  • Press Require sign-in to turn off SMTP authentication.
  • When the box next to the menu item is empty, the function is turned off.
  • Press Next.
23. Select setting for retrieving new email messages
  • Press the drop down list below Email check frequency.
  • Press Never or the required period.
  • Press Next.
24. Enter email account name
  • Press the field below Give this account a name (Optional) and key in a name for your email account.
25. Enter sender name
  • Press the field below Your name (Displayed on outgoing messages) and key in the required sender name.
26. Retrieve email messages
  • Press Done.
  • Wait while your phone retrieves new email messages.
27. Exit
  • Press the Home key to return to standby mode.
